The Replacement of Smith Point Bridge project includes construction of a replacement bridge carrying CR 46, William Floyd Parkway, over Narrows Bay to Smith Point County Park and improvements to the alignment of the approach roads to the new bridge. The plan is to construct a 1,812-foot-long high-level fixed bridge to the west of the existing Smith Point Bridge that will have a minimum 75-year service life. The new bridge will consist of prestressed concrete beams supported on concrete hammerhead piers. It will have 11 spans, approximately 165' long which provides for the required 100' horizontal channel clearance. Vertical channel clearance will be set at 55.6 ft and is expected to be acceptable to the USCG. This new bridge will minimize life cycle costs by eliminating the need for maintenance operations and staffing associated with a movable bridge; incorporate foundations designed to withstand expected extreme scour and seismic events; address geometric deficiencies to improve mobility and provide features that meet ADA requirements; improve the safety of the corridor for pedestrians, bicyclists, and drivers with the inclusion of a protected Shared Use Path for pedestrians and bicyclists.
The design will be completed by August 2025, Construction will begin June 2026 and is expected to be completed by June of 2029.
